Getting this document right
A quote that just says "boiler swap — £3,200" loses to the plumber whose quote shows the customer exactly what they're paying for. The difference isn't the price, it's whether the customer trusts the number. An itemised quote that separates labour from materials, states what's included and — just as importantly — what isn't, is what turns a viewing into a booking.
The section most plumbers skip is exclusions, and it's the one that saves the job. "Making good, tiling and any hidden pipework found once panels are removed are not included" is one sentence that stops the classic dispute where the customer assumed the price covered everything. This tool writes that section for you every time.
Your business details, VAT position and standard labour rate are added automatically once you've set them, so every quote goes out consistent and correct without you retyping them.
What people get wrong
No written scope
A price with no description of the work is impossible to defend when the customer says you agreed to more. List what you're doing, in order.
Forgetting exclusions
The dispute is almost always about what wasn't quoted. Spell out making good, tiling, asbestos and hidden pipework before you start.
No validity period
Material prices move. A quote valid for 30 days protects you when a customer accepts three months later at last quarter's copper price.
Vague payment terms
State the deposit, the balance point, and how you take payment. "Payment on completion" leaves too much unsaid on a big job.
